For centuries, jewelry boxes have existed in one form or another. Wood, metal, leather and velvet boxes exclusively housed the jewelry of the rich. For many, they could not afford the jewelry or the boxes that they come in.
The industrial revolution changed that with the availability of mass materials. It brought jewelry and their boxes to a wider audience and the care and production of these gem colored boxes became a rarity.
Our home is full of neutral colors, but I love the vibrancy of these so much. Their brilliant color, and mother of pearl clasps, along with their worn texture make them collectible to me.
These beautiful gem colored velvet boxes are a small part of the collection available for rent at prop workshop in NYC.
