Spring
It’s been a cold and rainy week in NYC and I am craving Spring. Signs of Spring are around, but we are not feeling it in the city. I grab my down jacket and umbrella as I walk out each morning, longing for some warmth and sun, and wishing to dismiss the grey of winter.
There are signs of Spring in the city inside the markets, even though the weather is not cooperating outside.
Occasionally, I walk through Eataly. The wonderful Italian shop created by Mario Batali on 23rd and 5th. Embarrassingly, I visit there, not so much for the food and drink, but really to hear the Italian language.
Hoards of Italians visiting NYC get dropped off by their tour bus nearby and head over to Eataly. Almost like a great song. I listen to them speak, understanding some of what they are saying, and savoring every minute of it.
I snapped out of it quickly this past week, when I spotted the Fiddlehead Ferns and Spring Onions. Inspired first to shoot them for their beautiful green color, we made a delicious meal and drank some great italian wine. Hopefully Spring will show up any minute.
I cipollotti erano deliziosi e il vino rosso era ancora meglio.
